MACON, Ga. — The Alexander High School Cougars will take the court Friday night with a state championship on the line, carrying one of the most dominant records in Georgia high school basketball into the GHSA Class 5A boys basketball state finals.

Alexander (29-2) is set to face Woodward Academy at 7:30 p.m. March 13 at the Macon Centreplex Coliseum, the site of the Georgia High School Association’s annual basketball championship games. The matchup places two of the state’s top programs on the biggest stage of the season.

The Cougars enter the title game riding a 24-game winning streak, a run that has propelled the Douglasville program through region play and the state tournament bracket.

Dunson leads Cougars’ championship push

At the center of Alexander’s success is senior standout Gregory “Pops” Dunson, whose leadership and scoring ability have helped guide the Cougars through one of the strongest seasons in program history.

Dunson has emerged as the team’s emotional and offensive leader, consistently delivering in high-pressure moments during the postseason.
