CARROLLTON, Ga. — Construction is set to begin March 24 on a major new distribution hub in Carrollton that company officials say will serve as a key economic driver for West Georgia and the broader Southeast region.

Industrial supply company Fastenal announced it will break ground on its Southeast U.S. regional operations and logistics center at the Old Airport Road development site in Carrollton, with a ceremony scheduled for 2:30 p.m. on March 24, 2026.

A Major Expansion in Carrollton

The new facility will replace Fastenal’s current 252,000-square-foot Atlanta-area distribution center and is expected to be significantly larger, with capacity to expand to as much as 900,000 square feet.

Slated to open in spring 2027, the Carrollton hub will become a central logistics point for Fastenal’s operations across the Southeastern United States.

The project has been described by company officials as a “primary growth engine for the region,” reflecting its anticipated role in expanding supply chain capacity and supporting regional economic development.

Why Carrollton Was Chosen

Fastenal leaders pointed to Carrollton’s strategic location and proximity to educational institutions as key factors in selecting the site.

“The new site gives us dramatically expanded capacity,” said Greg Campbell, the company’s senior regional operations manager. “It also offers close proximity to educational institutions, giving us a great pipeline for talent development and recruitment.”

The move continues Fastenal’s decades-long presence in Georgia. The company first launched its Atlanta-area distribution operations in 1993, later relocating to a larger facility in 2003, where it currently employs about 300 workers.

Technology and Operations

The Carrollton hub is expected to incorporate next-generation warehouse technology, including:

  • Advanced material handling equipment
  • Improved processing software
  • Increased storage capacity systems
  • Faster order-picking capabilities

These upgrades are designed to improve efficiency and support faster delivery to customers across the Southeast.

Economic Impact on the Community

Local officials and company leaders say the project could have a significant long-term impact on Carrollton and Carroll County, including:

  • Job growth: Fastenal plans to expand its workforce over the next five years as operations scale up.
  • Economic development: The facility is expected to attract related businesses and increase regional investment.
  • Workforce opportunities: Proximity to nearby colleges and technical schools could create new pipelines for skilled labor.

The project also reinforces Carrollton’s growing reputation as a logistics and distribution hub in West Georgia, benefiting from access to major transportation corridors and a growing labor market.

What Happens Next

Groundbreaking on March 24 will mark the official start of construction, with work expected to continue over the next year ahead of the planned 2027 opening.

As construction begins, local leaders and residents are watching closely, with many viewing the project as a transformational investment that could shape the region’s economic trajectory for years to come.
