DOUGLASVILLE, Ga. — Six of Douglas County’s highest-achieving high school seniors were recognized Monday during the annual Student Teacher Achievement Recognition (STAR) student and teacher program hosted by the Rotary Club of Douglas County.

The ceremony was held at the Douglas County School System central office, where students, educators, family members and community leaders gathered to celebrate academic excellence and the teachers selected as most influential in each student’s academic journey.

The STAR program honors seniors with the highest SAT scores in their respective schools who also rank in the top tier of their graduating class. Each student selects a teacher who has made a significant impact on their academic success, recognizing both achievement and mentorship.

The Rotary Club of Douglas County sponsors the local event each year as part of the statewide STAR program, which has recognized academic achievement in Georgia for decades. The program is designed to spotlight scholastic accomplishment and reinforce the value of strong teacher-student relationships.

School district officials said the annual recognition reflects Douglas County’s continued focus on academic excellence and college readiness. By highlighting both students and educators, the program underscores the role teachers play in preparing students for higher education and future careers.

Family members in attendance applauded as each student and their chosen teacher were introduced and presented with certificates. Several speakers noted that while test scores and grades earned the students their STAR distinction, the encouragement and guidance of teachers helped shape their paths.

The recognition not only celebrates individual achievement but also serves as a reminder to the broader community of the importance of investing in education. Rotary leaders said honoring high-performing students and outstanding educators helps foster a culture that values scholarship, mentorship and service.

The six students will now advance as Douglas County’s representatives in the regional level of the statewide STAR competition.
