ATLANTA — Georgia’s largest credit union is inviting young writers to put pen to paper and think about the value of saving this spring.

Delta Community Credit Union has opened its 2026 Youth Essay Contest, a month-long opportunity for third through fifth grade students in the credit union’s 20-county service area to explore what saving money means to them. The contest runs from March 1 through March 31, 2026, with winners to be announced on April 10, according to official contest guidelines.

Young participants are asked to answer in 75 words or less the question: “What is one goal you could achieve by leveling up your saving skills?” Submissions are accepted through the online portal at DeltaCommunityCU.com/YouthEssayContest.

For many children and families, the contest is more than a chance to win prizes. “When I asked my daughter what saving meant to her, she said it was like watching a plant grow — little drops matter,” said local parent Shannon Reeves, whose third-grader plans to enter. “This contest has made money talk a real conversation at home.”

Delta Community’s contest awards seven winners in each grade level (third, fourth and fifth) with a $100 contribution to a Delta Community Youth Savings Account or an alternate prize if they are not eligible for an account.

“Teaching financial responsibility early sets a foundation for lifelong confidence with money,” said Emily Torres, a teacher at a Carroll County elementary school. “Students are thinking about goals — not just dollars.”

Contest participation also connects students with broader educational programs the credit union offers, including financial learning tools and savings accounts tailored to children. These efforts reflect Delta Community’s ongoing investment in youth financial literacy in the region.

Parents, guardians and educators can find complete contest rules and entry forms online. Winners will be notified in April and recognized for creativity and insight into personal saving goals.
