Severe Storms Knock Out Power to Thousands in Carroll County; Service Fully Restored After Overnight Effort

CARROLL COUNTY, Ga. — A powerful line of early morning storms tore through Carroll County before dawn Monday, toppling trees, downing power lines and leaving thousands without electricity in a fast-moving weather event that tested the region’s emergency response systems.

The storms moved through the area at approximately 5 a.m. on March 16, bringing strong winds that caused widespread damage across parts of the county, according to local officials and utility providers.

At the height of the outages, roughly 6,600 members of Carroll Electric Membership Cooperative (Carroll EMC) were without power as crews worked to assess and repair damage across a broad service area.

Widespread Damage Across Carroll County

Emergency responders and utility crews reported multiple incidents of storm damage, including trees blocking roadways and crushing power lines, creating hazardous conditions for both motorists and repair teams.

Among the hardest-hit areas:

  • Centerpoint Road, where fallen trees obstructed travel and damaged nearby infrastructure
  • Come N Go Farm, which sustained significant property damage as the storm system pushed through

Officials said the damage was consistent with strong straight-line winds, though no tornado had been officially confirmed as of Tuesday morning.

Massive Response Restores Power

Crews from Carroll EMC, joined by contract workers and local partners, launched a large-scale restoration effort that continued through Monday and into the early hours of Tuesday.

Utility officials described the response as a coordinated operation involving:

  • Line crews clearing debris and repairing downed lines
  • Support teams managing logistics and safety
  • Additional contractor crews brought in to accelerate restoration

By the morning of Tuesday, March 17, power had been fully restored to all affected members, marking a rapid recovery less than 24 hours after the peak outages.

Community Impact and Recovery

While no widespread injuries were immediately reported, the storm disrupted daily routines for thousands of residents, leaving homes without electricity, delaying commutes and forcing some businesses to temporarily close.

Local officials praised the speed of the recovery, noting that restoring power to thousands of customers in such a short time required around-the-clock work under difficult conditions.

The event serves as a reminder of the region’s vulnerability to early morning severe weather systems, which can strike with little warning and cause significant infrastructure damage in a matter of minutes.

Looking Ahead

As cleanup continues in affected areas, residents are being urged to remain cautious around damaged trees, weakened limbs and previously downed power lines.

Utility officials also encouraged residents to report any lingering issues as crews complete final inspections across the county.

For many in Carroll County, the storms of March 16 will be remembered not only for their sudden impact, but for the swift, coordinated response that restored power and stability to the community within a single day.
